Tiger Woods has showered Scottie Scheffler with outstanding commendations during the ongoing Hero World Challenge, inadvertently delivering a blow to LIV Golf in the process.
While addressing journalists at Albany in The Bahamas—where Woods hosts his 20-man invitational for the TGR Foundation—the 15-time major champion expressed admiration for Scheffler’s supremacy in 2025.
The current World No. 1 accumulated six PGA Tour victories this season, including two major championships at the US PGA and The Open. This success brings Scheffler, 29, to a total of four major titles, just one US Open win away from joining Woods in the exclusive club of career grand slam winners—an achievement held by only a few in modern golf, including Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Woods, and Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler’s other victories this season include triumphs at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Memorial Tournament, BMW Championship, and Procore Championship, elevating him to 19 total PGA Tour wins, just 63 wins short of Woods.
Tiger Lauds Scheffler and Takes a Jab at LIV Golf
When asked about Scheffler’s performance, Woods didn’t hold back.
“There’s nothing to dislike about Scottie. He’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. His on-course strategy, especially how he analyzes the game from the green backward, is incredible. He doesn’t have lapses in concentration like most players do, staying present for all 18 holes. That’s not easy to achieve.”
However, the comment that ignited social media was Woods highlighting Scheffler as defeating “the best fields,” which many interpreted as a direct reference to LIV Golf’s competitiveness.
Woods’ remarks emphasized the PGA Tour’s strength at a time when LIV Golf is striving for parity. This isn’t the first time Woods has cast doubt on LIV; he previously mentioned he “couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on” during their broadcasts.
Woods, who will soon turn 50, is now part of the PGA Tour’s Future Competitions Committee and has discussed upcoming substantial changes to the tour, with a revamped schedule expected by the 2027 season.
As Scheffler competes for an unprecedented third consecutive Hero World Challenge title and Woods gears up for his anticipated return to competition, golf enthusiasts continue to analyze every statement from the 82-time PGA Tour champion.
