Last year, after he forgot to invite her to be his Valentine, Alayna humorously listed Tony’s golf clubs for “sale.” Recently, she had another reason to chuckle as Tony faced an unusual bet at the golf course.
Tony Finau’s recent participation at TPC Sawgrass was not memorable, resulting in 10 bogeys and a double, leading to him missing the cut. Despite a respectable T-13 finish at Pebble Beach and T-5 at the Genesis, he only managed a +8 at The Players Championship. While his game didn’t shine, he became a target for lighthearted mockery from a group of friends.
While strolling the course, three friends initiated a humorous wager, seen in an Instagram video by @handshakebets and @back9boys, challenging others to heckle Finau for $5. The video’s caption read, “$5 you won’t tell Tony Finau he has a phat a$$.” Embracing such challenges, Tyler Kozub, co-founder of Handshake Bets, shouted, “Hey, Tony, your a** looks kinda fat in those pants, buddy!” as Finau passed by.
Alayna later reposted the video on her Instagram story, revealing that Tony mentioned the heckle when he returned home, which made her laugh. She captioned her post, “Tony came home & said, ‘someone on the course said my 🍑 looked big.’ LOL and then someone tags me in this video on TikTok. & I died. 😂💀”
Interestingly, Tony Finau wasn’t the only target of the group’s bets. During The PLAYERS Championship, the friends placed a $5 bet that one of them, Pat, couldn’t finish his beer before Scottie Scheffler’s ball landed on the greens. Pat successfully completed the challenge and claimed the winning bet.
Recent performance on the greens has proven challenging for Tony Finau; his last victory was at the 2023 Mexico Open. Following that win, his results were inconsistent, marked by several missed cuts. Despite these setbacks, Finau showcased his skills by earning a T-3 finish at the U.S. Open, proving he remains competitive with multiple top-10 finishes throughout the season.
