Novak Djokovic Impresses at Miami Open While Aiming for 100th Title
After struggling earlier at Indian Wells, where he faced his third straight loss against Botic van de Zandschulp, Novak Djokovic is back on track at the Miami Open as he pursues his landmark 100th career title.
In a strong comeback, Djokovic triumphed over Rinky Hijikata with a score of 6-0, 7-6, advancing to the tournament’s third round.
He then faced Camilo Ugo Carabelli, defeating the entertaining Argentine in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6, securing his spot in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
Djokovic Highlights the Drop Shots of Musetti and Alcaraz
In the fourth round, Djokovic eliminated Lorenzo Musetti, conceding only four games in the match against the 23-year-old Italian. Post-match, he discussed his strategy, particularly the use of drop shots, praising Musetti and Alcaraz for their skills in this regard.
“I aim to innovate my game and incorporate various skills,” he said. “It can be especially effective against an opponent who is positioned far back.” He acknowledged that Musetti possesses remarkable drop shot skills alongside Alcaraz.
Preparing for a Challenge Against Sebastian Korda
Looking forward, Djokovic is set to face local favorite Sebastian Korda in the Miami Open quarter-finals. Korda, who recently overcame Gael Monfils in a rain-affected match, aims for his fourth Masters 1000 quarter-final.
Djokovic previously defeated Korda in a close three-set match during the 2023 Adelaide 1 final, and he is determined to replicate that success as he seeks a spot in the semi-finals of the Miami Open.
Musetti Eyes Career High Ranking as Clay Court Season Approaches
Despite his loss to Djokovic, Lorenzo Musetti can take away positives from his performance in Florida and may return to his career-high ranking of 15th depending on the outcomes of other players.
With the clay and grass court season on the horizon, Musetti is set to compete in upcoming tournaments, starting with the Monte-Carlo Masters on April 7, where he reached the quarter-finals two years ago.
