Tennis Bets and Predictions for Sunday, August 3rd:
This week, both the ATP and WTA Tours are in Canada for the 2025 National Bank Open, sponsored by Rogers. The men’s matches are taking place in Toronto as part of their Masters 1000 event, while the women are competing in their 1000-level tournament in Montreal. Notably, high-profile players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Aryna Sabalenka have chosen to rest for Cincinnati. Nonetheless, the competition remains strong, and we’re excited about the action unfolding up north. Be sure to check back at VSiN, where I’ll be sharing daily insights on the events leading up to Sunday, August 3rd.
Also, keep an eye on the picks page for additional picks, including selections for smaller tournaments and Challenger events. 2025 Record: 951-928-1 (+42.54 units)
Karolina Muchova vs. Madison Keys
Muchova showcased her improvement by defeating Antonia Ruzic 7-5, 7-5 in the Round of 64, signaling her earlier struggles are behind her. Her serve has notably improved, and she has returned to utilizing her two-handed backhand, crucial for her performance. In her previous match, she triumphed 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-3 against Belinda Bencic, who had recently reached the Wimbledon semifinals.
Given Muchova’s current form, it’s surprising to see her priced at +133 against Keys. While Keys has a superior serve, Muchova excels in returning and is a more proficient baseliner. Her ability to create varied plays could give Keys trouble, especially since the American often struggles with shot placement.
Frances Tiafoe vs. Alex de Minaur
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Andrey Rublev
I’m considering a two-leg parlay featuring de Minaur to win and Davidovich Fokina to secure at least one set. This matchup is promising for de Minaur. Tiafoe is a talented player but tends to make errors in longer rallies, making him vulnerable against de Minaur’s solid defense on hard courts.
In the other matchup, while I have some concerns about Davidovich Fokina’s ability to clinch the win, I believe he will be competitive. Having won six of his last seven matches, he should exude confidence after recently beating Rublev 7-5, 6-4 in Barcelona, breaking a prior losing streak against him.
Elina Svitolina vs. Amanda Anisimova
Anisimova has bounced back impressively from her Wimbledon final defeat, claiming straight-set victories against Lulu Sun and Emma Raducanu in Montreal. However, her matchup against Svitolina poses a challenge. While Anisimova’s last match was strong, Svitolina’s dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Anna Kalinskaya shows her current form is even sharper.
Svitolina is exceptional on serve and has stellar returning skills, which could exploit Anisimova’s athletic limitations. VSiN’s betting splits suggest that Svitolina is the more favorable option, as public interest in Anisimova has driven the odds against her.
Bet: Svitolina ML (-120 – 1.5 units)
