Young Kurdish Woman’s Dreams Cut Short
Robina Aminian, a 23-year-old university student in Tehran, aspired to move to Milan to build a career in fashion. Her Instagram featured her flaunting various traditional Kurdish garments.
Joining the Protest
On Thursday, she left the Shariati Technical University, where she was pursuing fashion design, to participate in a rally against the regime in the capital, as reported by the Norway-based Iran Human Rights NGO (IHRNGO).
A Family’s Tribute
“She was a remarkable young woman, brave and independent, and fought for what she believed in,” her uncle Nezar Minouei shared with CNN. “She yearned for freedom and women’s rights; she lived life fully.”
Tragic Outcome
Aminian was tragically killed in the protest when gunfire erupted, according to the human rights organization Hengaw.
Violence Against Protesters
Despite an internet blackout that has lasted for days, CNN has been gathering information about Iranians killed as authorities violently suppress the widespread anti-government protests. Reports indicate at least 420 protesters have died in the last two weeks, including eight children.
Heartbreaking Scenes
The family, having traveled from Kermanshah to Tehran, faced distressing circumstances when retrieving Aminian’s body, which was found among young people mostly shot in the head and neck. Initially, authorities refused to return her remains, and the family had to bury her without a ceremony.
Continued Resistance
Despite the dangers, protesters are continuing to rally across over 180 cities, driven by a wave of unrest stemming from severe economic conditions. Activists report that dissent is being met with lethal force, with many risking their lives amidst claims of governmental violence.
