B.J. Penn Arrested Again in Hawaii
UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn was arrested once more on Friday in his home state of Hawaii, linked to his persistent claims that his family has been murdered and replaced by imposters. This marks Penn’s third arrest within a six-day period.
Violation of Court Appearance
The latest arrest stemmed from Penn’s failure to attend court, thus breaching his bail agreement. Reports indicate that he had been arrested previously on Sunday and Monday on charges related to the abuse of a family or household member. Following this recent arrest, the 46-year-old former two-division champion was released on bail again.
Court Issues and Health Claims
According to local news outlet KHON2, Penn claimed he missed his court date due to being ill with COVID-19. However, his appeal to the court to recall the warrants was rejected.
Restraining Order Filed by Mother
Penn’s mother, Lorraine Shin, aged 79, filed for a temporary restraining order against him last week. This request was granted by Judge Jeffrey Ng and will remain in effect for at least 180 days. Penn is required to maintain a distance of no less than 100 feet from his mother and is prohibited from any contact while the order is in place. Breaching these terms could lead to misdemeanor charges and possible jail time.
Claims of Psychological Abuse
Court documents obtained by MMA Fighting reveal that Shin alleges she has suffered “extreme psychological abuse” from her son, who believes she is an imposter responsible for the death of his real family. She suspects he may be suffering from Capgras syndrome, a rare psychological condition causing individuals to think loved ones have been replaced by look-alikes.
Concerning Behavior and Incidents
Shin reported a troubling pattern of behavior from Penn after returning from a trip, finding several of her belongings missing. When she attempted to confront him, Penn allegedly assaulted her and has repeatedly breached police orders to stay away from her residence.
Recent Social Media Activity and Career Outlook
Penn has made various social media posts recently asserting that his family has been replaced by imposters. His last UFC fight was in May 2019, where he recorded a record seventh consecutive loss. UFC CEO Dana White previously stated that Penn should focus on his personal issues rather than fighting again.
