Danielle Collins stands out as one of the most captivating players on the tour, consistently delighting fans wherever she competes.
The American athlete made waves earlier this year at the Australian Open after defeating local favorite Destanee Aiava. Following her match, Collins blew a kiss to the audience and humorously thanked them for funding her vacation as they booed her off the Show Court Arena.
Collins is not only recognized for her post-match behavior; the 31-year-old has also showcased remarkable performances this year, including a noteworthy straight-sets victory over Iga Swiatek at the Italian Open.
Daria Saville Expresses Admiration for Danielle Collins
In a recent episode of ‘The Tennis,’ former world number 20 Daria Saville shared her admiration for Collins, stating, “I love her! I adore it. I wish to emulate this.” When she returns to play, she mentioned, “I’m going to channel my inner Danielle [Collins].”
Collins and Saville have met before on the WTA Tour, with Collins winning their encounter in the first round of the 2019 Fed Cup. For Saville to have a rematch, she will need to elevate her ranking, as she currently sits at 164th and may not secure entry into many main draws.
Struggling with her ranking recently, Saville has participated in only eight main draw matches in 2025, securing three victories, all at the Merida Open. Notably, she reached the semifinals there, narrowly missing the opportunity for her sixth WTA final.
Looking Ahead: Could Collins Triumph at the Canadian Open?
Collins is set to compete next at the Canadian Open in Montreal, an event that has seen several high-profile withdrawals from both men’s and women’s brackets. With world number one Aryna Sabalenka among those absent, other players will be eager to claim a significant title leading up to the US Open.
Having previously reached the quarterfinals at the Canadian Open in 2023, where she lost to Iga Swiatek, Collins would love to capture her second WTA 1000 title in Canada. She previously earned the Miami Open title but hasn’t reached another final since.
The Canadian Open kicks off on Monday, July 28, and fans are eager to see how Collins will perform with her recent upturn in form.
