Passion for Sports
Sports have always been a significant part of Julia Ravitz’s life. With her father having played football at West Point, sharing birthdays with an Army-Navy game, and growing up as a Philadelphia Eagles fan, her family regularly attended games at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Early Exposure to the Business Side
Ravitz developed a keen interest in the business behind professional sports through sports marketing and accounting classes at her high school in Dresher, Pennsylvania. Prior to becoming a student at Binghamton University School of Management, her engagement with sports was primarily on the sidelines.
Internship Experience
In the summer of 2025, her perspective shifted as she interned behind the scenes at Phillies home games, joining a team of interns focused on enhancing the fan experience.
Contributions to Fan Experience
“When people think about major organizations like the Phillies, they focus on players and owners. I discovered how every role in the stadium contributes to a successful fan experience,” Ravitz, a sophomore majoring in business administration with a concentration in marketing and management information systems, noted. “Attending baseball games with my family has created cherished memories, so I was excited to help others enjoy the same.”
Memorable Internship Highlights
- Supporting fan engagement efforts for the Phillies’ All-Star voting campaign.
- Assisting with soundcheck and logistics for a concert by Nelly.
- Facilitating special events at The Yard in partnership with team charities.
Lessons Learned
For Ravitz, who feels at home in athletic environments, her hands-on experience blended her passion for sports with her business aspirations. She realized the impact effective branding has on products, inspired by Super Bowl advertisements. Her involvement in campus organizations, like PwC Scholars and the Sports Management Group, played a crucial role in landing her internship with the Phillies, thanks to encouragement from fellow students.
Future Aspirations
Initially envisioning a conventional “desk job,” Ravitz’s internship broadened her outlook. Her supervisor’s journey helped her understand how careers can develop from entry-level positions and emphasized the importance of fostering strong partnerships within teams. As she continues her education at Binghamton, she aims to apply these lessons in her next role as an intern with University Athletics.
