Ford has raised the stakes with the Mustang Dark Horse SC, which features a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. More details regarding power output and pricing will be provided later this year, just ahead of summer deliveries.
The Dark Horse SC will be positioned between the Mustang GTD, which generates 815 horsepower, and the 500-horsepower Dark Horse, hinting at its own power output. This latest model follows in the footsteps of the previous-generation Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which also had a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, producing 760 hp and 625 pound-feet of torque.
The Dark Horse SC includes MagneRide dampers with upgraded software, alongside firmer springs, newly designed stabilizer bars, and modified front control arms. For added support, Ford has incorporated a lightweight magnesium strut tower brace.
This model boasts six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembo brake calipers, standard. The Dark Horse SC rolls on 20-inch aluminum wheels fitted with Pirelli P Zero R tires. Enhanced airflow and brake cooling systems have been implemented with a new front fascia, featuring a 65% larger center opening compared to the base Dark Horse.
The redesigned aluminum hood generates 2.5 times more downforce than the standard Dark Horse, with an opening area that is five times larger. Additionally, a new diffuser is incorporated at the rear end for improved aerodynamics.
Track Pack Upgrade
The optional Track Pack enhances the MagneRide dampers for tailored performance, complemented by 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels. Ford collaborated with Michelin to create custom Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which are paired with carbon-ceramic brakes from the GTD, measuring 16.5 inches in the front and 14.5 inches in the rear. The Track Pack also includes a ducktail-style decklid and an upgraded carbon-fiber rear wing, generating 620 pounds of rear downforce at 180 mph.
Price, Availability, & Options
The Dark Horse SC Track Pack will feature a Teal Accent Package, highlighting teal on various elements such as brake calipers and seat belts. A limited-run Track Pack Special Edition will also be offered, which combines the Track and Carbon packages, featuring a black-painted roof and exclusive color options like Shadow Black or Oxford White with unique interior accents.
According to Mustang brand manager Ryan Shaughnessy, Ford aimed for the Dark Horse SC to compete directly against brands like Porsche and Ferrari. Specific pricing and performance figures are expected to be announced soon, with orders opening in spring and deliveries commencing in summer.
