Hannah Hidalgo is more than just the dynamic point guard for Notre Dame; she embodies a transformative movement in college basketball. This new landscape involves not only excelling on the court but also securing brand endorsements and gaining traction on social media.
Aiming for the WNBA, Hidalgo, a 20-year-old junior, won’t be eligible for the draft until 2027. In the interim, she is balancing various NIL partnerships, featuring in the ESPN docuseries Full Court Press, competing with Team USA, and gearing up for another Atlantic Coastal Conference (ACC) season. Did we mention she’s just 5-foot-6?
Speaking with Yahoo for the OT Diaries, Hidalgo acknowledges that being a student-athlete while also building a personal brand requires collective effort.
“My coaches, agents, and everyone else help keep me organized. When things become overwhelming, I let them manage the details—just put it on my calendar or text me. I’m here for it all,” she explains. “That’s my approach.”
This is a glimpse into the life of a rising female sports star. Here’s how Hidalgo navigates her multifaceted role and draws strength from her faith.
Managing Pressure in a Growing Sport
“My faith keeps me humble and focused in the moment,” Hidalgo says. “I have a strong support network that includes my coaches, teammates, and family, who help me stay grounded while taking my mind off basketball.”
Authenticity in the NIL Landscape
“In the NIL world, being your true self is key since there’s only one you.” She adds, “Many believe they must emulate others for attention, but the most valuable thing is to stay genuine and true to your values.”
“Social media has allowed athletes to share their personalities,” she continues. “On platforms like TikTok, I show my fun side, while on Instagram, it’s more about basketball.”
