Adam Devine’s Health Struggles
Adam Devine is facing significant health challenges. For the past few years, he has dealt with doctors trying to determine the cause of severe muscle spasms that have nearly left him paralyzed. At one point, a doctor even warned him that he might not have long to live.
Recently, during an appearance on the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine discussed the issue, mentioning stiff person syndrome as a potential diagnosis. This conversation also touched upon a traumatic accident from his childhood when he was 11, which left him with lasting disabilities.
Devine recounted the details of his accident, stating, “I broke everything from my waist down besides my right femur and then crushed everything from the knees down and took all my skin off.” He revealed that his legs are still “messed up,” showing scars that serve as reminders of his past struggles.
In recent years, he has experienced significant tightening in his lower body, which limits his mobility. He shared that sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods is painful, necessitating regular stretching and foam rolling to manage the discomfort.
Devine explained that doctors initially diagnosed him with stiff person syndrome, a rare disorder that can eventually lead to severe complications. They had informed him that he could expect a life expectancy of just six years after his diagnosis, which left him concerned about the future of his family, especially with the imminent birth of his son.
However, after further consultations, a leading expert in the field ruled out stiff person syndrome, attributing his symptoms instead to residual effects from his childhood accident. The expert suggested that overexertion, particularly during the pandemic when Devine intensified his workout routine, might have exacerbated his condition.
Devine mentioned undergoing stem-cell treatment in Colombia, which he believes has improved his condition. While he feels better than he has in three years, he remains cautious about taking on physically demanding roles, preferring to focus on comedic parts alongside action stars instead of performing stunts himself.
