Carlos Alcaraz has advanced to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon after a hard-fought victory against Andrey Rublev.
Next up for Alcaraz is Cam Norrie, who will provide a significant challenge as the British number three.
Toni Nadal suggests that only Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner may pose a threat to Alcaraz at Wimbledon, where he is the reigning champion.
Alcaraz previously bested Djokovic in the finals at the All England Club in 2023 and 2024, and he also defeated Sinner in the final of the French Open last month.
Currently, Alcaraz is striving for his third consecutive title at SW19 and has recently achieved his 22nd straight victory on the ATP Tour.
What Makes Alcaraz’s Forehand Unique
In his match against Rublev, which he won with scores of 6-7(5-7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, Alcaraz’s forehand caught the attention of former player Pat Cash.
Cash noted on BBC that few players strike with a straight arm at contact, stating, “Only a handful manage it effectively, including legends like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.” He emphasized that Alcaraz is exceptional in his technique, producing powerful winners from diverse positions.
Praise from Pat Cash
Cash, who clinched his only Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, praised Alcaraz’s ability to excel on grass despite not having grown up on the surface, mentioning that he has won 32 of his 35 professional matches on grass, a remarkable feat.
Alcaraz, just 22, has already secured five Grand Slam titles, showcasing his prowess across all surface types: two on grass, two on clay, and one on hard courts.
