Brandon Beane’s Buffalo Home and Basketball Legacy
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Brandon Beane’s first residence in Buffalo came with a pool and an indoor basketball court, impressive additions made by the former owners.
The Competitive Spirit
The trades and free-agent strategies implemented by Beane in the Bills’ front office have undoubtedly played a role in shaping the careers of Dan Morgan and Joe Schoen as general managers. However, it was during their competitive 3-on-3 basketball games on Beane’s basement court that the three talent evaluators would unwind and enjoy friendly rivalry.
Basketball and Bonds
Schoen, now the GM of the New York Giants, encouraged Beane to place a hardwood court with the Bills’ logo over the existing concrete. “Dan and I are super competitive. Beane is too, obviously,” Schoen remarked. “Dan is so big and strong that if you go into the lane on him, you’ll get knocked about 10 feet the other way.”
Transitions and Friendships
After Morgan transitioned from Buffalo in 2021 to become the Panthers’ assistant GM, Schoen continued to work with Beane until 2022. “We’re best friends, but we’re also incredibly competitive,” Schoen noted, emphasizing their enjoyable camaraderie in the office.
First Meeting Since Promotions
Since Beane and Bills coach Sean McDermott departed from Carolina in 2017, many players have shifted between the Charlotte and Buffalo teams. Sunday’s matchup marks the first meeting since Morgan was elevated to replace Fitterer in 2024, which Morgan described as “crazy” and a full-circle moment.
Respect and Growth
Beane, who was in the Panthers’ football operations when Morgan was drafted in 2001, admired Morgan’s dedication as he progressed in his scouting career. “Dan didn’t have to do this; he had plenty from his playing days, yet he chose to prove himself all over again,” Beane said, highlighting Morgan’s exceptional work ethic.
Trust in Collaboration
Morgan’s rapport with Beane and Schoen makes communication effortless, whether discussing trades or seeking advice. Their shared history fosters mutual trust, as evidenced by a recent trade between the Panthers and Giants for edge rusher Brian Burns, among other transactions. Looking ahead, Beane plans to connect with Morgan during a trip to Charlotte, hoping to chat about football over drinks.
