As Samuel L. Jackson began his career, he received invaluable guidance from Bruce Willis. While filming “Die Hard With a Vengeance” in 1994, Willis advised Jackson to discover a beloved character, similar to the iconic roles of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
Willis told Jackson, “Hopefully you’ll be able to find a character that, when you make bad movies and they don’t make any money, you can always go back to this character everybody loves. Arnold’s got ‘Terminator.’ Sylvester’s got ‘Rocky’ and ‘Rambo.’ I’ve got John McClane,” Jackson recounted to Vanity Fair.
It took Jackson 14 years to fully grasp Willis’ wisdom when he landed the role of Nick Fury, noting, “Oh, I’m doing what Bruce said. I’ve got this character now.” Jackson portrayed Nick Fury in 12 Marvel films, starting with “Iron Man” in 2008.
