Cardinals and Mets Game Postponed Due to Rain
ST. LOUIS — Once again, rain has led to the cancellation of a game between the Cardinals and Mets in St. Louis, marking the second consecutive season impacted by poor weather. The Cardinals are now set to head into another doubleheader this week due to adverse weather conditions.
Impact of Inclement Weather
Heavy rainfall throughout Saturday has resulted in the postponement of the planned game. Earlier in the week, the Cardinals also faced a rainout while playing in Cincinnati, which forced them to play a doubleheader against the Reds. They successfully swept both games in that series. Earlier in April, the team faced a similar situation in Boston, where they lost both games of a doubleheader after a rain delay.
Player Developments
St. Louis made the decision not to start right-hander Michael McGreevy, who had been called up from Triple-A Memphis just before the rainout. McGreevy was brought up as a precautionary measure in case the game required extended innings from the bullpen. Instead, he will be available to pitch on Sunday.
McGreevy’s Journey
Ranked as the Cardinals’ No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline, McGreevy made a successful MLB debut in 2024, achieving a record of 3-0 with a 1.96 ERA across four appearances. Although he performed well in Spring Training, he was sent to Triple-A to accommodate the Cardinals’ crowded pitching roster.
McGreevy’s Thoughts
“I was just happy to be back in the big leagues,” stated McGreevy. He had originally been scheduled to pitch for Memphis but expressed enthusiasm for his return to MLB, saying, “This is where you want to be.”
Mets’ Rookie Debut
In Game 1, the Mets will feature Blade Tidwell for his Major League debut. The 23-year-old, ranked as the Mets’ 15th prospect by MLB Pipeline, was informed of his call-up by the team’s vice president of pitching development.
Excitement Surrounding Tidwell
Tidwell shared his surprise at the call-up, stating that he immediately reached for his puppy, Bentley, to celebrate and called family members to share the news. With a current road ERA of 3.08, the Mets are hoping for a strong performance from Tidwell and their overall pitching staff.
