The excitement continues at the 2025 French Open as WTA Tour stars vie for the prestigious title in Paris.
In under two weeks, we will have our second Grand Slam champion of the year at the French Open.
At the Australian Open held in January, Madison Keys claimed the trophy by defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
As a runner-up in Melbourne, Sabalenka is considered a strong contender for the title in Paris, alongside her major rival and three-time defending champion, Iga Swiatek.
Other players, such as Coco Gauff and Jasmine Paolini, who have performed well this clay season, also have a shot at victory on Court Philippe Chatrier next Saturday.
Caroline Wozniacki names Mirra Andreeva as her ‘dark horse’
During a discussion on TNT Sports, the 2018 Australian Open champion expressed her admiration for Russia’s Mirra Andreeva.
“I really enjoy watching her play. She’s young, has a positive attitude, and keeps improving,” Wozniacki commented.
Having practiced with Andreeva multiple times, Wozniacki noted the significant improvements in her game, particularly her serve and forehand.
“While she isn’t a complete player yet, I believe she could be. She’s exciting to watch and could surprise many in this tournament,” Wozniacki said.
Mirra Andreeva’s ‘tough’ second-round victory
Andreeva advanced to the third round by defeating American Ashlyn Krueger, 6-3, 6-4.
In her post-match interview, she acknowledged the challenges she faced: “This match was tough, especially since I lost to her at the US Open. I had to perform my best today.”
She noted that although her serve was inconsistent, she managed to stay calm and fight through to secure the win.
“I love playing on this court and appreciate the fantastic support from the fans. It’s motivating,” Andreeva expressed, looking forward to her third-round match against either Yulia Putintseva or Joanna Garland.
