Meeting with BCB President
Current and former cricketers, led by Tamim Iqbal, convened unexpectedly with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, expressing their dissatisfaction with recent board activities.
Controversy Over Towhid Hridoy
Recent events regarding Towhid Hridoy sparked criticism, as BCB cricket operations chairman Nazmul Abedin Fahim announced on April 24 that Hridoy would be suspended for an upcoming match against Gazi Group on April 26, after returning early from a suspension.
Umpire’s Resignation
Following widespread criticism of Hridoy’s earlier return, former CCDM technical committee convener Enamul Haque Moni resigned in protest, and elite umpire Sharafuddoula Ibne Saikat also stepped down, refusing to continue after Hridoy’s ban was shortened.
Corruption Allegations
The BCB’s Anti-Corruption Unit summoned Naeem and Sabbir of Shinepukur Club amid allegations during a match, aiming to reconstruct a contentious incident using video analysis. An investigation was initiated following concerns from a match played on April 9, 2025.
Tamim Iqbal’s Statements
Addressing reporters post-meeting, Tamim highlighted players’ concerns, particularly the handling of Hridoy’s case and the media’s leak of names of ten cricketers linked to corruption, which he deemed disrespectful.
BCB’s Clarification
In response, the BCB stated that Hridoy’s two-match suspension has been deferred over 12 months, aiming to maintain game integrity, support ongoing tournaments, and foster unity within the cricketing community.
