Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s life has always been filled with excitement—think racing victories, crashes, and the thrill of driving. Recall that difficult decision during the 2018 Clash when Amy remarked it was “not worth the risk to health” for him to race, despite the dangers involved? However, over the years, things have changed gradually, especially after his marriage to Amy and retirement in 2017. This shift is a heartwarming chapter for the NASCAR icon, who has swapped the chaos of racing for a quieter life in the countryside. The man once fixated on achieving Cup victories is now focused on expanding his 300-acre estate in North Carolina with new family members.
It’s well-known that Dale Jr. has a passion for pets. From his childhood hamsters named after characters from Days of Our Lives to the 2017 race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where his No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet adorned a decal of Marshall, a young German Shorthaired Pointer; his love for animals has been evident. Now, with his wife Amy, he appears to have developed an affinity for farm animals.
Amy Earnhardt has family farms located in Victoria, Texas, and frequently spends time there. The Earnhardt family visited Carrigan Farms in Mooresville, North Carolina, last year, enjoying the experience of picking fresh apples. Dale Jr. also possesses a property that includes a paintball course, a golf course, and various animals such as buffalo. Recently, he discussed the latest additions to their farm family.

During an episode of their unfiltered podcast, Bless Your Hardt, Dale Jr. shared, “We got four new donkeys,” mentioning that they rescued them, but later was corrected by Amy, who noted, “Actually, it’s 5 donkeys and a mule,” before providing further information about them.
“The names of the new donkeys are Gus, Pumpkin, who is the baby, Girly, and Momma,” she explained. Earlier, she posted pictures of their newest additions on her Instagram stories, featuring Pumpkin and Momma with the caption, “Meet some of our new donkey bb’s.” Additionally, during the podcast, Amy shared how their youngest daughter, Nicole Lorraine, has bonded with the donkeys.
“You know what’s adorable? Lorraine told me she sings to them every day, and they come right over. Yesterday, while we were walking, Isla (the eldest daughter) sang her favorite song at the fence, and all three donkeys were lined up, touching noses. It was the cutest moment,” she recalled. When asked later in the podcast what animal they would wish to own, Amy expressed her interest in various animals.

A Call for Help from Amy
In 2023, Amy took to Instagram to share a post from Piedmont Animal Rescue that was a “DESPERATE PLEA FOR KITTEN FOOD.” Not stopping there, she took action by stating, “I’m sending these kittens some food! Please consider helping if you can. Tap the link to view the wish list,” as part of her Instagram story. This compassionate response likely touched many fans as Amy stepped forward to support rescue organizations.
With the recent addition of four donkeys, it’s clear that Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Amy’s love for animals continues to thrive, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see more furry friends join their family in the future.
