New Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26
Last week, it was announced that iOS 26 will include an optional Adaptive Power Mode for iPhones, complementing the existing Low Power Mode.
According to Apple, Adaptive Power Mode will implement “minor performance adjustments” as needed to prolong battery life, such as lowering screen brightness or extending the duration of certain processes.
Understanding Adaptive Power Mode
The detailed description of Adaptive Power Mode from the initial iOS 26 beta states:
Your iPhone can adjust performance slightly when battery usage spikes, to extend battery life, including dimming the display or allowing certain tasks to take longer.
Compatibility and Limitations
iOS 26 will work on iPhone 11 models and later, but Adaptive Power Mode is exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models and newer, as it relies on Apple Intelligence for its operation.
Enabled by Default and Future Prospects
Adaptive Power Mode will be disabled initially. Users can activate it through the Settings app, navigating to Battery → Power Mode. This feature could prove particularly advantageous for the anticipated iPhone 17 Air, which is rumored to have a slim design that restricts battery size.
Currently, iOS 26 is in the beta testing phase, with an expected public release in September.
