Training Camp Highlights
On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Eagles held their 13th training camp practice in preparation for the 2025 NFL season. The team faced off against the Cleveland Browns in the first of two joint sessions leading up to Saturday’s preseason matchup. Here’s a summary of the key observations from the NovaCare Complex.
Eagles vs. Browns Practice Overview
One might have expected the Eagles to dominate in this practice, but that wasn’t the reality. The Browns delivered a strong performance, making it competitive rather than a clear victory for either side. The offenses on both teams struggled to find their rhythm, although the Eagles’ offense showed slightly more promise compared to the misfiring Browns quarterbacks.
Hurts’ Performance Breakdown
After an excellent showing on Tuesday, quarterback Jalen Hurts had a more challenging day on Wednesday, throwing three interceptions:
- The first interception came during 1-on-1 drills, where Hurts’ throw to Ainias Smith was intercepted by nickel cornerback Myles Harden, potentially due to Smith’s route.
- The second pick occurred in 7-on-7s when linebacker Devin Bush intercepted a short pass intended for Dallas Goedert.
- The third interception happened in 11-on-11s when Hurts, seemingly “sacked,” attempted a risky pass to Jahan Dotson, which was caught by safety Ronnie Hickman.
Injury Updates
Several players were sidelined on Wednesday, including:
- WR A.J. Brown (hamstring) was marked as DNP, though the Eagles are being cautious.
- WR Elijah Cooks (shoulder) and OL Kenyon Green (shoulder) have missed four straight practices, with Green expected to sit out the rest of the preseason.
- OG Landon Dickerson (knee) is listed as “week-to-week” following a minor procedure.
Position Battles: Cornerback
Kelee Ringo took first-team reps during 11-on-11 drills, while Adoree’ Jackson and Jakorian Bennett rotated in the cornerback position. Ringo struggled with consistency, allowing several catches, while Bennett had mixed results, including a pass breakup but also a defensive pass interference penalty.
Johnny Wilson’s Improvement
After a slow start to camp, wide receiver Johnny Wilson has begun to shine, making significant catches during practice. He utilized his height effectively against defenders and showed signs of improvement that are encouraging for his progression on the team.
Looking Ahead
The Eagles aim to enhance their performance against Jim Schwartz’s defense. Moving forward, the schedule includes another joint practice with the Browns on Thursday, followed by a walkthrough on Friday, and the preseason game on Saturday.
