Dying Light: The Beast has arrived, and although there were some peculiar issues with heavy rain (which should now be resolved), I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Techland’s open-world zombie RPG. After investing over twelve hours and having played previous titles in the series, I’ve gathered some tips for newcomers and those seeking extra help during their zombie-slaying adventures.
Kick! Kick! And Keep Kicking!
Just like in earlier Dying Light versions, there is a kick button that you should utilize frequently. Kicking zombies uses minimal stamina and prevents them from grabbing you, which they’re particularly eager to do in this game. Additionally, kicking them off ledges or roofs offers amusing and easy kills.
Prioritize the Drop Kick Skill
In the early stages of Dying Light: The Beast, you can access the skill tree. Make it a priority to acquire the drop kick ability, which allows for a powerful two-footed jump kick that can send multiple zombies and human foes flying. Drop-kicking zombies into one another is especially enjoyable!
Then Grab the Safe Landing Skill
Another essential skill to obtain early is the safe landing skill located at the top of the skill tree. It enables you to fall from great heights without taking damage, as long as you hold the crouch button before landing. This ability has saved me numerous times, and it will be invaluable for your zombie-slaying endeavors as well.
Don’t Become Attached to Weapons
You will encounter various powerful melee weapons in Dying Light: The Beast, like massive hammers and flaming machetes. While they are fun and effective against zombies, it’s wise not to get too attached. Each weapon has a limited number of repairs, and once they’re exhausted, that’s it. If you have the blueprint for a specific weapon, you can craft it repeatedly; otherwise, exercise caution with any exotic weapon you stumble upon.
How to Throw Weapons
When a weapon nears the end of its durability, rather than dismantling it, consider tossing it at a zombie for one final attack. The game doesn’t clearly instruct you on this, but to throw a weapon on a controller, hold the attack button and click the right stick. On a keyboard, hold the attack button and press F. If executed correctly, you’ll hurl your weapon at the nearest zombie.
Activate New Safehouses and Towers
As you explore The Beast, you will notice towers and safehouse icons on your map. Make a habit of heading to these locations as soon as you spot them, irrespective of your current tasks. Activating these sites provides you with safe zones that protect you from the dangers of night and serve as respawn points upon death.
