The historic Casino at Hampton Beach is set for a significant renovation, promising a refreshed appearance for Ocean Boulevard.
Recent plans put forward to the town’s project review committee propose the addition of a 200-room hotel, a new casino ballroom, and expanded retail space.
“The planning board’s process is still in its early stages. We received the site plan application in early June, so we’re at the beginning of our review,” stated Jason Bachand, Town Planner for Hampton.
The proposal, introduced by Lupoli Companies last month, may take some time before receiving full approval.
“At least one more meeting of the plan review committee will be needed. If everything goes perfectly, they might appear before the planning board in September. However, it is more likely that it will take a bit longer, probably further into the fall,” Bachand explained.
News 9 reached out to residents along Ocean Boulevard to gauge their reactions to the proposed changes. Many expressed their thoughts and feelings.
“I think it’s beautiful. I think that would be great,” commented one individual. Another visitor, Rebecca from Minnesota, expressed optimism about its impact, stating, “It would definitely increase revenue and attract more visitors.”
Contrastingly, some residents noted their attachment to the current building, established in 1899. Eric Dobson from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, shared his sentiments, saying, “I have so many memories of the arcade. I will miss the old building, and while it may not stop me from coming here, I will feel differently about the place.”
The project review committee convened for the first time regarding the proposal last Wednesday, during which questions were raised and minor modifications were made. Developers will need to resubmit adjusted plans to proceed.
News 9 attempted to contact Lupoli Companies for further comments, but the developers chose not to respond at this time.
