Logan Sargeant Joins Ford’s Hypercar Team
Ford has officially included former Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant in its inaugural lineup for the 2027 World Endurance Championship’s Hypercar class.
Sargeant’s Role and Team Composition
He will race alongside established factory drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Sebastian Priaulx in the yet-to-be-named Ford LMDh, which will utilize an Oreca LMP2 chassis.
Unexpected Debut
Sargeant’s inclusion in Ford’s Hypercar program follows an unexpected participation in WEC’s Bahrain rookie test last November, where he completed initial laps in the Ford Mustang GT3.
Expertise and Historical Significance
According to Ford LMDh chief Dan Sayers, the 25-year-old contributes essential technical expertise and high-downforce experience for such a significant program. He emphasized that adding an American driver pays tribute to legends like Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt, who were instrumental in Ford’s 1967 Le Mans victory with the Ford GT40 Mk. IV.
Sargeant’s Racing Background
Sargeant participated in Formula 1 with Williams during 2023 and 2024 but was released mid-season due to disappointing results, with his only points finish occurring at the 2023 US Grand Prix.
Upcoming Races and Team Plans
Although details about Sargeant’s plans for the 2026 season remain undisclosed, he is set to compete in this month’s Daytona 24 Hours with an Oreca 07 from Era Motorsport. Meanwhile, Rockenfeller and Priaulx will participate in the 2026 European Le Mans Series to prepare for the Hypercar program, though Ford has yet to announce the specifics of their team involvement.
Ford’s Powertrain Announcement
A year after announcing its return to premier sportscar racing, Ford has revealed significant details about the powertrain for its LMDh prototype, featuring a naturally-aspirated 5.4-litre V8 engine, which will work in conjunction with a spec hybrid system designed in collaboration with Bosch, Xtrac, and Williams Advanced Engineering. Ford’s performance team is developing this engine entirely in-house.
