INDIANAPOLIS — Cavs Struggle but Prevail Against Pacers
The Cavs are finding it increasingly difficult to secure wins lately.
This struggle was evident even against a weakened Pacers team, which recently saw a 12-game losing streak and is far from the squad that eliminated Cleveland from the playoffs last spring.
Despite trailing for most of the game, the Cavs surged in the fourth quarter to clinch a 120-116 victory, dodging another potential embarrassment. The Pacers are now experiencing the longest losing streak in franchise history.
Fourth Quarter Comeback
Evan Mobley commented on the effort: “It’s just that will to win at the end of the game. We always want to win, and everyone just steps up. We always rally in the fourth. Kind of used to it.”
Game Progression
Playing without their leading scorer, Donovan Mitchell (resting), the Cavs struggled early, falling behind by nine points and trailing for most of the first quarter. They managed to regain their footing in the second quarter, briefly taking the lead, only to lose it again before halftime.
Decisive Moments
Entering the fourth quarter down by nine, the Cavs began a rapid comeback. Darius Garland led the charge, scoring pivotal points that ultimately secured the lead, despite a late challenge from the Pacers.
Key Performers
Garland topped the scoring with 29 points, including 14 in the final quarter, demonstrating resilience despite a back injury. Mobley contributed 20 points, while Jarrett Allen and Sam Merrill each added 19.
Resilience Amid Challenges
The Cavs displayed strong mental fortitude, allowing them to pull off a victory in what seemed like certain defeat. Garland highlighted the need for improvement in their overall performance: “I don’t like it. But we do have enough talent that we can get away with it.”
Looking Ahead
Next, the Cavs will face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night at 8 p.m., continuing their two-game road trip.
