George Clooney’s Move to France for Family
George Clooney has shared that his choice to live in France stems from wanting to provide his children with a better upbringing than they would have had in the U.S.
Family Life in France
The 64-year-old actor, who has eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, with his wife Amal Clooney, a human rights lawyer, discussed his decision in a detailed interview with US Esquire magazine while at his Italian villa on Lake Como.
Values of Country Living
“We reside on a farm in France,” he stated. “A significant part of my childhood was spent on a farm, and I disliked it as a kid. But now, for the twins, it means they’re not glued to iPads. They have dinner with adults and help clean up afterwards.”
Concerns about Hollywood Culture
“They enjoy a much better life. I was anxious about raising kids in LA due to Hollywood’s culture, feeling they wouldn’t receive a fair opportunity. In France, fame isn’t prioritized. I want them to live without the worry of paparazzi or comparisons to other celebrity kids.”
Clooney’s Reflections on Fatherhood
Clooney, whose father Nick, now 91, was a local TV anchor, noted that the age difference between him and his children makes such comparisons unlikely. “Fortunately, I’m much older, so it’s improbable my son will be compared to me, as I’ll be too old by the time he achieves anything,” he said.
Fostering Independence in His Children
The actor emphasized the importance of teaching his children self-sufficiency, encouraging them to contribute around the house. He recounted fixing various items, stating, “It’s essential they learn to be independent and capable.”
Clooney’s Reflections on Career
Promoting his recent work in Noah Baumbach’s film, **Jay Kelly**, Clooney reflected on the ups and downs of his career, including dealing with alcohol and substance use. He remarked that past experiences have influenced how he perceives classic films today.
