Tiger Woods Misses PNC Championship
Tiger Woods will be notably absent from the PNC Championship. The 15-time major champion, who celebrated his 50th birthday this week and is now eligible for senior golf tournaments, has participated in the last five events alongside his teenage son, Charlie Woods.
Team Woods’ Recent Performance
Last year, Team Woods finished as the runners-up after narrowly losing in a playoff against German golfing legend Bernhard Langer and his son Jason. Fans were eager to see whether the duo could achieve their first victory at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Florida this year.
Woods’ Ongoing Recovery
However, their hopes were dashed when Tiger Woods revealed to reporters prior to the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas that, despite receiving medical clearance to chip and putt, he would not be able to compete. He is still recuperating from his seventh back surgery.
Impact on Charlie and Replacement Team
Woods expressed that it would be unfair to depend on Charlie for longer shots and would take away the opportunity from another team to cherish special memories. Gary Woodland and his father Dan have stepped in to take the place of Team Woods this year.
Team Annika’s Performance
In the meantime, Team Annika, featuring LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam and her son Will McGee, has made headlines. McGee played exceptionally well on the first day, sinking a birdie putt at the final hole to secure their all-time best round of 61 in scramble format.
A Tribute to Woods
As a heartfelt tribute to the absent Woods, 14-year-old McGee wore a pair of Woods’ iconic Sun Day Red golf shoes during the event.
Future Plans for Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods underwent back surgery in September, marking his second operation this year, following an Achilles injury sustained in March as he prepared for the 2025 Masters. While Woods had hoped to participate in all four major tournaments, he has not played in a professional event since the 2024 Open and has not committed to any specific tournament schedule.
