Google aims to enhance its appeal by tapping into Hollywood.
The tech giant has discreetly initiated a new film and TV production venture, known as 100 Zeros, in collaboration with Range Media Partners, a talent and production firm recognized for titles like “A Complete Unknown” and “Longlegs.” This initiative is dedicated to uncovering projects that Google can either fund or produce, focusing on a variety of scripted and unscripted films and TV shows. Details regarding the financial aspects or timeline remain undisclosed.
With 100 Zeros, Google has several objectives. One aim is to encourage the creative community to engage with its latest tech offerings, such as the Immersive View feature that showcases 3D visuals, and spatial tools merging the physical and digital realms.
Additionally, Google seeks to cultivate a favorable perception of its products—and technology in general—through entertainment to attract younger audiences by influencing pop culture.
In its early stages last year, 100 Zeros invested marketing funds in an indie horror film, “Cuckoo,” produced by Neon. This collaboration featured the 100 Zeros logo prominently in the film credits. Google did not promote this partnership publicly, but it illustrates the alignment it seeks, partnering with a celebrated indie studio and a film targeting Gen Z, featuring Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria” and “Hunger Games.”
Another development in this direction is the “AI On Screen” project between Google and Range, which commissions short films about AI, with plans to adapt two into feature-length films. One of these shorts, “Sweetwater,” involves a celebrity’s child receiving a shocking AI revelation that challenges their perception of their parent’s legacy.
Through this partnership, Google intends to work thoughtfully with the Hollywood creative scene to support artistic expression while exploring technological storytelling possibilities, as stated by a Google spokesperson.
