Well-known leaker Sonny Dickson has released additional dummy models of the anticipated iPhone 17 series from Apple. The latest designs indicate a significant alteration in the design of the iPhone Pro models, surpassing the much-discussed new rear camera layout.
Dickson highlights that the dummy models of the iPhone 17 Pro showcase a defined section on the back, starting just below the camera module and extending down to the bottom of the device. He mentions this area is “where the glass will change.”
Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital claims that the iPhone 17 Pro models will incorporate a mix of materials, particularly a glass section for the logo area integrated with a metal chassis. This detail explains the red areas seen in previous CAD images of the iPhone 17 Pro models.
According to The Information, Apple has opted for a mixed half glass, half aluminum construction for its premium devices to enhance durability. The glass allows for continued wireless charging functionality, while a partial aluminum frame reduces the risk of breakage.
Currently, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro models utilize a titanium chassis, which was presented as a key upgrade upon its introduction with the iPhone 15 Pro. Amid the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup, Apple is reportedly planning to revert the entire range of devices back to aluminum.
Consistent with earlier rumors and CAD images, the dummy models illustrate Apple’s transition to a lengthened horizontal camera module positioned along the top of the back of both the iPhone 17 Pro models and the iPhone 17 Air, though this will not be featured on the standard model. The dummies also appear to exhibit a more seamless transition between the camera bump edges and the back cover, which is attributed to Apple’s adoption of a new glass-and-metal splicing technique.
The dummy models unveiled today also suggest that all iPhone 17 versions—including the new ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air—will incorporate MagSafe. This new design represents one of the most significant visual shifts in Apple’s premium iPhone offerings in recent history. The new series is expected to launch in September.
