Apple’s Foldable iPhone Details Revealed
A Chinese leaker has disclosed that Apple’s anticipated “iPhone Fold” will incorporate a foldable display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, building on previous leaks regarding the device’s design.
The leaker, known as Digital Chat Station, indicates that a roughly 4:3 aspect ratio on the internal display will help unify the outer display and align with existing iPad applications.
Apple’s iPad and iPad Pro have consistently featured a 4:3 aspect ratio, providing a well-balanced interface whether held vertically or horizontally, which enhances functionalities like reading and multitasking. The only exception is the 8.3-inch iPad mini, which uses a narrower 3:2 ratio.
In previous leaks, Digital Chat Station also mentioned that the iPhone Fold would come with a 5.5-inch outer screen and a 7.8-inch inner screen. Esteemed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has confirmed these specifications, adding that the device’s inner display will be “crease-free.”
Kuo further elaborated that the phone would sport a titanium alloy casing and feature a hinge constructed from metallic glass, accompanied by dual rear cameras and a front camera functional in either folded or unfolded mode.
Interestingly, Kuo has noted the absence of Face ID, instead opting for a side-mounted Touch ID to conserve internal space. The device aims to function as a “truly AI-driven phone,” taking advantage of the larger screens for effective multitasking capabilities. Market predictions estimate the selling price for the iPhone Fold to range between $2,000 and $2,500, with expectations for its release in the next year as per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
