After a tumultuous period, the Miami Heat finalized a significant five-team trade, relocating six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round draft pick. Miami also secured guard Davion Mitchell from Toronto as part of this complex deal.
Golden State further dealt Dennis Schröder and Lindy Waters III to the Detroit Pistons, while P.J. Tucker had a brief stint with the Heat before being sent to the Raptors for Mitchell. Reports indicate that while Miami initially arranged a trade with Toronto for Anderson, it ultimately fell through, leaving the Heat to decide on Anderson’s future.
The Heat officially announced that Wiggins will don No. 22, the number previously held by Butler. The Warriors’ side of the deal includes:
- Jimmy Butler (acquired from Heat)
- Two second-round picks (from Heat)
- Cash considerations (from Heat)
In addition to this, Butler has opted out of his player option for the 2025-26 season to sign a two-year, $121 million extension, securing his spot with the Warriors until 2026-27. This trade concludes a lengthy and tumultuous period for Butler with the Heat, where tensions around contract negotiations led to multiple suspensions.
The 35-year-old swingman joins his fifth NBA team, looking to partner with veteran stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green to help revitalize the Warriors, who currently sit in 11th place in the Western Conference. Butler, who experienced significant playoff success with the Heat, now aims to lift the Warriors back into playoff contention.
