John Cena’s Final Match at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event in D.C.
On December 13, 2025, Washington D.C. hosted WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event show at Capital One Arena, which marked John Cena’s last match.
Cena faced off against Austrian wrestling sensation “The Ring General,” Gunther, in a challenging 24-minute bout, ultimately losing the match.
WTOP’s José Umaña spoke with fans who traveled from far and wide to attend the significant event. Many expressed their disappointment over Cena’s loss, including Winston, who journeyed from California, stating, “It really sucked that John Cena lost. We lost a great legend today.”
Fan Antonio, also from California, remarked on the shock of seeing Cena tap out. “After a career spanning over 20 years, it was hard to see it end like that,” he noted. “But it was worth the trip to see the ‘GOAT’ retire.”
Patrick, who came from Florida for his first WWE match, described the event as a memorable experience. “It was a great match…but I suspected it might end like that. The other matches were pretty entertaining too,” he shared.
Earl B. Bryant commented on the match’s outcome, saying, “Tonight it didn’t go the way people wanted, but Gunther did what was necessary to pave the way for the new generation. He’s the future of wrestling.”
Canadian fan Blake appreciated the overall entertainment of the night but wished for a different ending. “The card was wonderful, but the conclusion could have been better. Still, Cena is the ‘GOAT’ for a reason,” he concluded.
