Kelly Clarkson Reflects on Her Kids During Talk Show Milestone
Kelly Clarkson recently expressed her gratitude for her children during the 1,000th episode of her self-titled talk show, which aired on Thursday. The emotional moment unfolded as Clarkson, 42, managed to hold back tears while viewing a montage that featured her two kids’ appearances on the show.
The “Moment Like This” singer shares her life with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, with whom she has two children: 10-year-old River Rose and 8-year-old Remington “Remy” Alexander. Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020, and they reached a final settlement in March 2022.
Looking Back on Family Moments
As she reflected on the various changes since the show premiered in September 2019, Clarkson stated, “On a personal level, I think the most meaningful change for me is my own family.” She recalled the countless times her children joined her on stage and expressed her admiration for them.
“Over the years I’ve had my kiddos on stage with me and they’ve always blown me away. So this is a look back on those memories,” Clarkson noted, remarking that she hadn’t seen the clips before and jokingly added, “So you’re crying. I’m not.”
Emotional Responses and Proud Moments
As the montage concluded with Remy singing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” Clarkson applauded, clearly moved by the moment. “That was really sweet,” she said afterward. While checking her makeup, she quipped, “And, look, I kept it together, you guys,” indicating she didn’t let her emotions get the best of her.
Expressing her love for her children, Clarkson said, “River and Remy, I love you so much. I’m so proud of you both. They’re just fearless and very bold.” She acknowledged their strong personalities, which she described as resembling her own as an adult.
Co-Parenting and Personal Challenges
In past discussions, Clarkson has opened up about the difficulties of co-parenting amid her divorce. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing their children’s best interests and the challenges of managing different perspectives with Blackstock. “It’s tough,” she admitted while discussing their shared commitment to their kids.
Clarkson also highlighted lessons learned through therapy, particularly about being open with her children regarding emotional struggles. She mentioned that allowing children to see both the good and bad moments can foster empathy and understanding.
