Kohler Introduces iPhone-Connected Toilet Device
Kohler is enhancing its bathroom product range with Dekoda, a device designed to connect to an iPhone and attach to the rim of a toilet (source: The Verge). It features sensors that detect and analyze activity within the toilet bowl.
Kohler claims that Dekoda acts as a health tracker, capable of monitoring gut health, hydration levels, and even detecting blood in the toilet.
The product’s marketing avoids labeling it explicitly as a camera, instead discussing “powerful sensors” that cannot view anything outside of the toilet. According to its site, these sensors only capture imagery within the toilet bowl.
The technology involves advanced optical sensors and spectroscopy to analyze how light interacts with waste, followed by data interpretation using machine learning algorithms. Consumer privacy is emphasized, with end-to-end encryption and optional fingerprint authentication for enhanced security. A Bluetooth fingerprint scanner may also be installed near the toilet to limit scanning to the owner’s waste.
Dekoda marks the inaugural product of Kohler Health, available by subscription. Pricing stands at $6.99 per month for individual users or $12.99 for families of up to five. Annual subscriptions are also offered at $70 and $130.
Interested consumers can pre-order Dekoda on Kohler’s website, priced at $600.
