Padres’ Recent Success Linked to Strategic Trades
SEATTLE — A month ago, the Padres would not have secured this win.
Impactful Trades Transforming the Team
Nearly four weeks have passed since general manager A.J. Preller made significant moves by completing five trades that involved 22 players just before the July 31 Trade Deadline. These changes are proving to be game-changers for San Diego.
Exciting Game Against the Mariners
On Tuesday night, the Padres triumphed over the Mariners in a tense, back-and-forth contest at T-Mobile Park, finishing 7-6. The team saw a grand slam and a double from the hot-hitting Ramón Laureano, alongside two hits from Ryan O’Hearn and a hit, walk, and RBI squeeze from Freddy Fermin. Mason Miller was brought in for the top of the Mariners lineup during a critical seventh inning.
New Additions Make a Difference
Just a month prior, none of these players were part of the Padres. Their influence is evident in the improved depth of the lineup. “There’s no question about it, this is the deepest lineup I’ve ever been in,” Laureano remarked.
Manager’s Confidence in the Crowd’s Talent
Manager Mike Shildt praised the additions, noting the significant enhancement to an already strong bullpen. Laureano’s first-inning grand slam initially provided a 5-0 lead. However, after a series of setbacks, the Padres found themselves trailing 6-5 before rallying back.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Jake Cronenworth expressed the team’s tenacity: “We get punched in the mouth there in the bottom of the fifth… and we come right back. It’s who we are.” Cronenworth’s RBI single tied the game, followed by Fermin’s pivotal squeeze bunt that sealed the victory.
Newcomers Quickly Integrated
Despite the potential adjustment period, the new players have seamlessly integrated into the team. “They’ve been bought in since day one… Couldn’t ask for a better group of guys,” Cronenworth noted. Shildt credited the staff for their efforts in helping new players acclimate swiftly, creating a welcoming environment.
