Lewis Hamilton’s Incredible Wealth Revealed in the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List
Formula One icon Sir Lewis Hamilton has been recognized as the wealthiest active athlete in the UK, according to the latest 2025 Sunday Times Rich List released on Friday.
Previously ranked as the 350th richest individual in the UK with a net worth of £350 million, Hamilton’s fortune has surged to £385 million following his high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, placing him 324th on the list.
His unexpected transition to Ferrari shocked the F1 community, particularly after he had signed a two-year contract with Mercedes just a year prior, opting to activate a one-year break clause.
At 40, Hamilton is expected to earn £50 million annually with his new team, with the contract spanning two years, plus an option for a third year in 2027.
This remarkable salary eclipses the previous record held by Max Verstappen, who earned a base salary of £47 million last season. Hamilton’s earnings could increase significantly with performance bonuses, depending on his season’s success.
Despite his impressive income, Hamilton has faced challenges this season with Ferrari, having yet to secure a podium finish. His best result so far is a fifth-place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix. His last championship win occurred in 2020, when he matched Michael Schumacher’s record of seven titles.
Name Change Plans
In 2021, Hamilton received a knighthood for his contributions to motorsport and invited his mother, Carmen, to witness the honour from Prince Charles. The following year, he shared intentions to legally include his mother’s maiden name, Larbalestier, in his name.
Hamilton expressed a desire to continue his mother’s legacy by merging her name with the Hamilton surname, highlighting his awareness of traditional naming conventions.
High-Profile Relationships
As one of the most celebrated F1 drivers, Hamilton’s dating life has garnered considerable media attention. He has had several notable relationships, including an on-and-off romance with Nicole Scherzinger that lasted about eight years.
The couple met in 2007 at the MTV EMAs but eventually separated in 2015 amidst media coverage of their relationship. Hamilton has also been linked with various A-list celebrities, including supermodels and musicians, though he has downplayed rumors regarding some of these connections.
Upcoming Film Project
Hamilton is set to appear alongside Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem in the upcoming film F1: The Movie, which showcases the world of Formula 1 racing. In the film, Pitt portrays an F1 driver who must return from retirement to mentor a young talent.
Hamilton plays a part in the film, appearing alongside all drivers from ten teams in the 2023 F1 season. He also serves as a producer and has been credited for his significant contributions to the film’s development, highlighting his enthusiasm and expertise in the world of racing.
