WhatsApp as Default App on iPhone
Users can now set WhatsApp as their default calling and messaging app on iPhone, should they choose to do so (via WABetaInfo).
The recent update to WhatsApp (version 25.8.74), available on the App Store, allows the encrypted messaging platform to appear in the default options for messaging and calling within the iOS settings (Settings ➝ Apps ➝ Default Apps).
This feature, which Apple introduced in iOS 18.2, initially seemed targeted for the European Union, but it is now accessible worldwide.
By selecting WhatsApp as your preferred app for messaging and/or calling, your iPhone will open the app automatically for these tasks instead of using Apple’s native options, such as Messages and Phone/FaceTime.
For instance, if you choose to contact someone through the Contacts app on your iPhone, tapping the message or call buttons will directly launch WhatsApp.
