Joshua Pacio Celebrates Denice Zamboanga’s Achievements
Undisputed ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio expresses immense pride in the progress of his fellow Filipino, Denice “The Menace” Zamboanga.
Pacio has witnessed Zamboanga’s challenging journey filled with struggles and unexpected obstacles, including injuries and delayed title fights. The 28-year-old fighter showed resilience and waited for her opportunity to shine.
Now, Zamboanga can proudly claim the title of the Philippines’ first female MMA World Champion after securing the ONE Interim Women’s Atomweight Title with an impressive win over Alyona Rassohyna in January, and later being elevated to undisputed champion when Stamp Fairtex vacated her title in May.
Pacio remarked, “I was thrilled when she became undisputed World Champion; it was long overdue. God’s timing is always perfect. She is a female World Champion now, proving that women can achieve greatness in ONE Championship as well.”
Zamboanga’s historic victory has also paved the way for more female fighters in the Philippines, inspiring a new generation to pursue MMA. Pacio emphasized the need for more female competitors in the sport, stating that Zamboanga’s champion status serves as a strong motivator for other aspiring athletes.
Both athletes are set to represent the Philippines at ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri in Tokyo, Japan, on November 16. Pacio aims to extend his legacy by challenging ONE Flyweight MMA World Champion Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu while Zamboanga will defend her title against Ayaka “Zombie” Miura.
Pacio is optimistic that the recent rise in interest in MMA within the Philippines will continue, fostering a new era of champions. He believes that they are at the peak of their careers and anticipates the emergence of new talents in the years to come.
Pacio expressed, “We’re witnessing a resurgence in Filipino fighters, and I’m excited for our future. Now, with two World Champions from different teams, other athletes will be motivated to reach for gold in ONE Championship.”
He is also optimistic about the potential of emerging stars like Jayson “Dumagmang Warrior” Miralpez and Marwin “Green Goblin” Quirante, acknowledging that they have the potential to play significant roles in the future of Filipino MMA.
