Great news for fans of Severance: the series is set to return for a third season.
Apple has confirmed the renewal of the show, which is created, written, and executive produced by Dan Erickson, alongside director and executive producer Ben Stiller, just as the Season 2 finale, titled “Cold Harbor,” premieres today on the platform.
This exciting announcement was made by Apple CEO Tim Cook, who shared the update via social media, stating, “Season 3 of Severance available on request.”
The renewal follows the show’s growing popularity, as Severance has recently outperformed Ted Lasso to become Apple’s most viewed series in history, spending five consecutive weeks in the Nielsen streaming reports with a record of 681 million minutes watched.
Although Apple has not disclosed the premiere date for Season 3, Stiller assured fans during an appearance on the New Heights podcast that it won’t take another three years as it did between Seasons 1 and 2.
The ensemble cast of the show, which received a SAG Award nomination, includes notable actors such as Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, and Patricia Arquette, among others. Season 2 introduced new characters and explored deeper backstories, expanding on the mystery surrounding Lumon Industries and its operations.
Severance revolves around Mark Scout (played by Scott), who oversees a team at Lumon Industries where employees have undergone a procedure that separates their work and personal memories. As Mark delves deeper into a mystery, he is forced to confront the nature of his work and his identity.
