The 2025 Cincinnati Open kicked off before the conclusion of the Canadian Open, demonstrating the continuous excitement in tennis.
Among the notable returns in Cincinnati, one of the most significant is Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, who recently achieved major success.
Having opted out of the Toronto event, Sinner now aims to defend his Cincinnati Open title, entering the tournament with renewed vigor.
On the women’s side, top seed Aryna Sabalenka aims to clinch her second consecutive Cincinnati Open title upon her return.
However, she is expected to face stiff competition from former adversary Coco Gauff, who recently faced an upset in the Canadian Open.
Coco Gauff on Cincinnati’s New Facilities
During her pre-tournament press briefing, Gauff remarked on the impressive new developments in Cincinnati. “I arrived just 20 minutes ago and was blown away! I had watched a video of the outdoor area, but the players’ area is something else,” she said.
“I haven’t explored the locker room yet, but the entrance is absolutely stunning. From what I’ve heard, this tournament boasts the best facilities on the tour, even better than the Grand Slams,” she continued.
As part of a $260 million investment in the tournament’s future, the event organizers revamped the facilities in 2025.
Gauff wasn’t alone in her positive impressions, as ATP number one Sinner shared his enthusiasm during his own press conference. “It’s astounding! It feels like a whole new venue. The improvements are vast, especially the space available for players,” he expressed.
Routes to Cincinnati Open Titles
Seeking her first WTA 1000 title of the season, Gauff has been placed in a relatively “quieter” half of the draw, allowing her to potentially avoid encountering top rivals until the final round.
Ultimately, both Gauff and Sinner are excited about the newly upgraded Cincinnati facilities. Now, all eyes are on how they will perform as the tournament progresses.
