Swifties were starting to doubt that Target, a longtime retail collaborator with Taylor Swift, would release its own exclusive vinyl version of “The Life of a Showgirl,” as previously speculated, especially with only nine days remaining until the album’s release on October 3. However, the uncertainty has been resolved: Swift announced on Wednesday that Target will indeed offer a chain-exclusive LP variant, but unlike former Swift/Target collaborations, this edition will be limited, featuring only one pressing before it is retired.
This Target edition carries its own subtitle, akin to other promised variants for this release: it’s titled “The Life of a Showgirl: The Crowd Is Your King” edition. It will be pressed on what is described as Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer Vinyl, specifically featuring an “opaque pink and pale-yellow pearlescent vinyl with gold shimmer.” Additionally, it includes a custom gatefold sleeve, a large double-sided poster, a poem by Swift, and previously unseen photos.
A key detail to note is: “Limited quantities available, while supplies last.” This album will be sold through Target’s website, and it is expected to sell out quickly—though the quantity available has not been disclosed.
Fans who may miss out online will have another chance when additional copies become available at physical stores during the midnight release. Target has announced that approximately 500 locations will remain open past midnight to sell CDs and LPs at the moment the clock strikes 12.
Swift shared on Instagram, “A showgirl knows to save some of her best tricks for the grand finale. The Life of a Showgirl: The Crowd is Your King Edition on Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer Vinyl is available for pre-order now exclusively at @target while supplies last.”
Alongside the exclusive announcement, Target has provided details for fans eager to participate in the late-night sales. The company indicated that team members will distribute physical or digital tickets in the electronics section starting October 2 at 10 p.m., which will reserve products for purchase. Shoppers can then return to the designated area at 11:45 p.m. to buy their items at midnight.
In contrast to previous announcements, which included three standard pressings of the album that were not limited editions, this new LP will feature unique front and back cover artwork and promises unseen images inside the packaging. Interestingly, the standard edition titled the “Sweat and Vanilla Perfume” edition will only be available on Target’s website, although it is anticipated that this will evolve after the “Crowd Is Your King” edition sells out.
