Diggs Risks Missing Bonus
FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs may miss out on $500,000 from his 2025 salary due to his absence from the team’s offseason program.
Choice to Rehab Away from Team
Diggs has chosen to rehabilitate his surgically repaired left knee in Miami instead of at The Star, missing both the first two phases of the offseason program and the recent organized team activities.
Contract Participation Requirement
To avoid losing the $500,000, Diggs must participate in 84.375% of the offseason program, according to his contract. The Cowboys’ mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 10 to 12, and missing that can also lead to fines.
Voluntary Program with Consequences
Though the offseason program is voluntary, the Cowboys frequently include de-escalator clauses in significant contracts, which have affected players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Diggs may be the first to see his salary reduction enforced if the team acts on the clause.
Coaching Insights and Recovery Updates
Coach Brian Schottenheimer stated that he recently checked in with Diggs, who has had a follow-up appointment with the team doctors. Stephen Jones remarked that while Diggs is being thorough in his rehabilitation, they prefer he does so under the team’s supervision.
Past Injuries and Future Outlook
Diggs, scheduled to earn $9 million in 2023, has faced injury challenges over the last two seasons, including a torn ACL. He underwent surgery in January for a chondral tissue graft to assist knee recovery and may begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, raising the possibility of missing at least four games.
Cornerback Concerns and Roster Status
With concern at the cornerback position due to Diggs’ injury and the loss of Jourdan Lewis, the Cowboys have other options, including Pro Bowler DaRon Bland and recent trade acquisition Kaiir Elam. However, rookie Shavon Revel Jr. and other players are also recovering from injuries, leaving the roster in a precarious state.
