The UConn men’s basketball program is expected to gain more insight into its roster after this weekend.
This Saturday marks the early entry deadline for the NBA Draft. Alex Karaban has yet to make a decision on whether to declare for the draft or return to Storrs.
Karaban faced a similar situation last spring when he initially declared but withdrew after the Draft Combine. He could adopt this approach again, as he has until May 28 to withdraw and return to college. However, Karaban mentioned last week that he would prefer to make a definitive choice sooner rather than later.

In terms of his draft projections, Karaban is still viewed similarly as before, with ESPN projecting him as high as No. 34 to the Charlotte Hornets and No. 37 to the Detroit Pistons according to Sports Illustrated. Other projections suggest he may go No. 44 to the Oklahoma City Thunder or No. 45 to the Chicago Bulls.
Aside from Karaban, Liam McNeeley is anticipated to be Dan Hurley’s fifth first-round pick in the last five years. ESPN and CBS Sports indicate that McNeeley will likely be selected late in the lottery. However, many mocks have him falling just outside the top 14, with projections ranging from No. 15 to No. 22.
Another uncertain aspect of the Huskies’ roster is Georgia transfer Silas Demary Jr., who is working out with NBA teams to assess his draft prospects. The consensus is that he will likely return for his junior year unless he receives strong indications of being a first-round draft pick. Currently, he is not featured in any mock drafts.
As for other Huskies players, Isaiah Abraham has committed to Georgetown, Ahmad Nowell will join VCU, and Youssouf Singare is going to High Point. Aidan Mahaney’s decision remains pending, although he recently visited Florida Atlantic.
