Bellarmine Knights
Out: Scott Davenport | In: Doug Davenport
Scott Davenport was a pillar of the Bellarmine basketball program, promoting it from Division II to Division I over the years. He led the team to a national championship in 2011 and made four D-II Final Four appearances over 20 seasons, coaching a total of 426 games in Louisville for over four decades. Following his retirement, the program appointed his son, Doug, who has been an assistant coach for nine years.
Campbell Fighting Camels
Out: Kevin McGeehan | In: John Andrzejek
After a 12-season run with the Fighting Camels, McGeehan was dismissed following a 15-17 season. His overall record was 184-199, and he failed to take Campbell to the NCAA tournament. The university transitioned to the CAA two years back and is now looking to restart under Andrzejek, who is currently an assistant at Florida and will finish the season there before taking over.
Chicago State Cougars
Out: Scott Spinelli | In: TBD
Spinelli’s single season as head coach was problematic, as Chicago State finished with a disappointing 4-28 record and ranked 361st on KenPom. The role is considered one of the toughest in Division I basketball.
Columbia Lions
Out: Jim Engles | In: TBD
Engles coached the Lions for nine years without achieving a season above .500. Columbia’s program is challenging, yet it is located in a desirable area of New York City. Rumors suggest Kevin Hovde, an assistant at Florida and a former Columbia assistant, may be a leading candidate, although the selection process may take some additional time.
Denver Pioneers
Out: Jeff Wulbrun | In: TBD
Wulbrun spent four seasons as the head coach before being placed on leave for undisclosed reasons. Denver has never qualified for the NCAA tournament since its move to Division I in the late 1990s.
Fordham Rams
Out: Keith Urgo | In: TBD
This coaching vacancy was speculated upon since January, with Fordham making it official on the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. Urgo’s record declined significantly from 25-8 in his first year to 12-21 in his latest, resulting in a last-place finish in the A-10. Hiring someone of note might prove difficult for the program.
Iona Gaels
Out: Tobin Anderson | In: Dan Geriot
Anderson’s dismissal after just two seasons raised eyebrows, especially given the high expectations following the departure of Rick Pitino. Anderson led FDU to a historic upset in 2023 but ended his time with a record of 33-34 at Iona. Geriot, currently an assistant for the New Orleans Pelicans and a former Richmond player, represents a trend of hiring from the NBA to the college ranks.
