Hauser’s death occurred on Saturday at his home in Santa Monica, following a prolonged struggle with COPD, as confirmed by his daughter, Bright Hauser. She mentioned he had recently been relying on an oxygen tank.

Among those who survive him is his son, Cole Hauser, known for his role as Rip Wheeler on the series Yellowstone.
Hauser gained significant recognition after portraying the psychotic pimp Ramrod in the striking 1982 film Vice Squad, directed by Gary Sherman. He notably performed the film’s theme song, “Neon Slime.”

His impressive career included a variety of roles, such as a bigoted U.S. Army officer in A Soldier’s Story (1984), a cocaine dealer in Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling, and a police officer in Tough Guys Don’t Dance, for which he earned a nomination for a Spirit Award.
