Tottenham’s Head Coach Discusses £51 Million Signing and January Transfer Plans
Thomas Frank is confident that Xavi Simons will thrive at Tottenham Hotspur and has detailed the club’s objectives for the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old playmaker joined Spurs after the club’s attempts to sign Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze fell through, making a £51 million switch from RB Leipzig at the end of the summer transfer window. However, he hasn’t started a match for nearly a month.
Although Xavi has no goals to his name, he has provided two assists in 18 appearances. Notably, Tottenham has won six of the nine matches he started, yet they haven’t won a game in which he was on the bench, including challenging encounters against Arsenal, PSG, and Newcastle.
Frank’s team is set to face Brentford on Saturday, and he believes Xavi can play a vital role similar to that of Mikkel Damsgaard, who was instrumental in Brentford’s high-pressing game last season. Frank expresses belief in Xavi’s potential as a creator and finisher.
The coach acknowledges the challenge of integrating new players into the squad smoothly, emphasizing the importance of patience and training. He aims to foster professional relationships with his players for better communication and development.
Frank admits he is still figuring out the best starting XI, especially amid long-term injuries to key players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. He highlights the necessity of rotation and adapting to the number of games played throughout the season.
Regarding potential January signings, Frank suggests the club is exploring opportunities to strengthen their squad, particularly in key positions. He acknowledges the heightened pressure he’s facing at Spurs compared to his previous role at Brentford, emphasizing the need for a long-term vision to succeed.
