Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that discussions between Ukrainian and American officials will take place in Saudi Arabia next Monday, coinciding with confirmed talks between US and Russian representatives on the same day.
Zelensky urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease imposing unrealistic demands that only extend the conflict, specifically mentioning that Moscow’s conditions include a complete halt to military aid for Ukraine.
He cautioned that agreeing to remove NATO membership from Ukraine’s considerations—which Putin has claimed is a key condition for peace—would amount to a significant concession to Russia.
Zelensky also dismissed allegations from the White House that he discussed transferring ownership of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants to the US with former President Donald Trump during a phone call.
This latest round of discussions aims to facilitate a ceasefire, as both Ukraine and Russia have signaled their willingness to agree to one during talks with the US, though a definitive agreement remains elusive due to differing preconditions.
A Ukrainian delegation intends to present a list of critical infrastructure that should be protected from Russian attacks at the upcoming talks.
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the need for proactive planning regarding a post-war Ukraine, suggesting a coalition of willing nations to ensure peace following a negotiated solution.
