Tanvir Islam has rediscovered his form.
Facing criticism after the T20I series against the UAE for over-experimenting with his bowling, Tanvir made a significant turnaround in a crucial ODI match against Sri Lanka in Colombo, leading Bangladesh to level the three-match series.
The selectors had faith in Tanvir’s capabilities in white-ball cricket, giving him a chance in the T20I squads. However, after struggling in two matches against the UAE, where he claimed only two wickets for 67 runs, he was dropped from the squad, leading to scrutiny over his altered bowling style.
Despite his modest performances in domestic leagues, including 15 wickets in 13 matches in the Dhaka Premier League, Tanvir continued to receive national selection. Many speculated that pressure to perform may have caused him to alter his bowling technique unsuccessfully.
His performance on Friday served as a reminder of his potential when he plays to his strengths. “I had changed my action during the T20I series which did not go well. After discussing with Towhid Hridoy, I reverted to my previous action, realizing that it’s what makes Tanvir effective,” Tanvir shared.
Following Tanvir’s return to his original bowling style, head coach Sohel Islam emphasized the importance of correcting both his action and the impact of T20 cricket on his length and pace, aiding him to regain his ODI form. This shift allowed Tanvir to showcase his skills during the series, ultimately securing his first ODI five-wicket haul, catalyzed by supportive performances from his teammates.
