Liverpool is in negotiations to acquire a winger valued at £87m, with both Mohamed Salah and another wide player potentially leaving the club. Additionally, there’s a notable update on Arne Slot’s precarious situation, along with a humorous reversal concerning a rumored Reds transfer.
Changes on the Wings
Mohamed Salah and Federico Chiesa are key players who might depart Liverpool during the summer transfer window, with reports indicating that discussions for a fresh signing are already underway.
Salah’s performance this season has raised concerns, leading to speculation that he may not fulfill the two-year extension he signed less than a year ago.
Despite Salah’s disappointing form, interest from Saudi Arabia remains strong. With his contract running until 2027, Liverpool may seize the opportunity to secure a substantial fee for a declining winger in his mid-30s.
German reporter Florian Plettenberg has also mentioned that Chiesa could leave, which may be beneficial since he is rarely selected.
Plettenberg shared on X that Liverpool has initiated talks to sign Yan Diomande, a long-discussed target. The RB Leipzig talent is expected to cost around €100m (£87m), which might deter rivals like Bayern Munich from making a move due to the high price.
Arne Slot’s Future in Question
It has been widely reported that Slot could be dismissed as Liverpool’s manager if the team fails to qualify for next year’s Champions League, a situation that seems unthinkable for the reigning Premier League champions who’ve invested nearly half a billion pounds in new players.
While finishing fifth might suffice for Champions League qualification, making the future of Slot uncertain, insider Graeme Bailey revealed that Slot could still face dismissal, irrespective of the outcome of the season, due to intense scrutiny from Liverpool’s leadership.
Transfer U-Turn
Sky Germany has reversed its position regarding Liverpool’s interest in Nnamdi Collins, a defender from Eintracht Frankfurt. Just a few days ago, they reported that Collins was looking to leave the club and Liverpool was among the interested teams.
However, Plettenberg has since clarified that Liverpool is currently not pursuing Collins, despite earlier reports to the contrary. The 22-year-old is contracted with Eintracht Frankfurt until 2030, and while a move to the Premier League is possible, Liverpool appears to have stepped back from the race.
