No Third Season Planned for “Ted”
It seems Ted and John Bennett’s adventurous teenage days may be over, as creator Seth MacFarlane revealed there are currently “no plans” for a third season of the Peacock prequel series. Despite a strong debut, “Ted” Season 1 quickly became Peacock’s most-viewed title.
Production Costs and Constraints
MacFarlane mentioned that the production expenses for the series are quite high, with estimates suggesting a budget of between $8 million and $10 million per episode. “I heard from Peacock and Universal that the show is really expensive to produce and there’s no way to do it at a lower cost,” he shared. He subsequently crafted a final scene encapsulating the series, hinting at a possible conclusion.
Status of Renewal and Cancellation
As of now, Peacock has not released any information regarding the renewal or cancellation of the series. A spokesperson for the streaming service chose not to comment on the subject.
Praise for Visual Effects Team
MacFarlane commended the production and visual effects team for their hard work in bringing the lovable yet raunchy teddy bear to life across two seasons, with a total of sixteen half-hour episodes. He stated, “The workload is immense. It’s essentially like creating an Avengers movie every 22 minutes due to the CGI required not just to animate the bear but to perform with it.”
Innovative Use of AI
In a notable moment in Season 2, Episode 5, AI technology was utilized for MacFarlane’s cameo as former president Bill Clinton. Unable to achieve the right look using CGI, they turned to AI, which yielded much better results. “The traditional CGI was just terrifying, focusing more on the effect than the writing,” said MacFarlane, emphasizing the need for audiences to engage with the story rather than distracting effects.
Future of the “Ted” Franchise
Despite uncertainty surrounding the prequel series, MacFarlane and Peacock are working on expanding the “Ted” universe with a new animated series that will continue from where “Ted 2” concluded. This series will also feature the vocal talents of Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth.
New Animated Series in the Works
While MacFarlane declined to divulge specific plot points for the animated series, he praised the executive producers for their impressive work. “They’ve delivered a fresh take that still fits within the Ted universe.” Although a premiere date remains unannounced, fans can currently stream both “Ted” films along with Seasons 1 and 2 of the prequel on Peacock.
