Coaching Announcement
George Mason’s men’s basketball head coach Tony Skinn (’06) has confirmed that Andy Fox will be joining the coaching staff as an assistant coach. Fox comes with almost 20 years of coaching experience across different levels of Division I basketball.
Experience and Achievements
Having mentored seven NBA players and 34 all-conference athletes, Fox’s most recent role was as an assistant coach at Army West Point for the 2024-25 season. Under Fox’s guidance, the Black Knights had a historic season, including their first postseason victory in 55 years.

“Andy is an experienced coach with a strong basketball acumen,” Skinn commented. “His diverse background—having been a DOBO, assistant coach, and general manager—provides a unique set of skills that will greatly benefit our program as we aim for continued improvement.”
Previous Roles
Previously, Fox spent five seasons at Vanderbilt where he served in various roles including director of scouting and associate head coach. His tenure there saw the Commodores make two NIT appearances, achieving a remarkable 22-win season in 2022-23, securing the program’s best finish in 13 years and earning Skinn SEC Coach of the Year accolades.
Recruitment Success
Fox was instrumental in recruiting elite talent at Vanderbilt, securing the 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes that ranked 12th and 32nd nationally. He played a crucial role in the development of current NBA stars Aaron Nesmith and Scottie Pippen Jr., as well as SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Liam Robbins.
Additional Contributions
In his role as general manager at Vanderbilt, Fox was the first full-time basketball-specific GM in Power 5 college basketball, overseeing everything from recruitment to scheduling and even capital projects like the Huber Practice Center. His prior experience also includes positions at Louisiana Tech and Tulane where he achieved significant milestones in player development and program success.
Educational Background
Fox earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and health science from Cornell (Iowa), where he had a successful college basketball career, finishing fifth all-time in assists and seventh in steals. He also holds a master’s in sports psychology from Tennessee. Fox and his wife, Tiffany, have three children: a son named Brendan and two daughters, Emery and Camille.
